New York State Tournament
Ciardullo Goes 2-2, Comes Within One March of Earning All-State Honors
SECTION I TOURNAMENT
CIARDULLO, RODEN, AND ROSE EARN ALL-SECTION HONORS
CIARDULLO A NYS QUALIFIER
At the Section I Wrestling Tournament, the RAMS had 3 wrestlers earn All-Section honors. Ryan Ciardullo had an amazing tournament to take 3rd place in the Section. Ryan had a pin and a major decision before losing in the semi-finals to the eventual tournament champion. He then won his next 2 matches to set-up a “true-second” bout against his nemesis from North Rockland who he beat this time 12-8 in a gutsy, heart pounding match. By winning that bout, Ryan earns a trip to compete at the NYS Tournament in Albany in 2 weeks. Will Roden improved on his 6th place finish last year to take 4th place in a loaded 160 pound weight class. Will pinned his first two opponents before dropping a tough match in the semifinals. After earning a major decision in the consolation-semifinals, Will lost a gritty match to finish in 4th place. Sam Rose did it the hard way to earn his All-Section honors. Sam dropped his first match and then won 4 of his next 5 matches including a pin in his last match to finish in 5th place to step up on the awards podium. Both Alex Perez and Jack Granata had solid tournaments going 2-2 and coming within a match of being All-Section. Ian Hung won his first match by tech fall before losing his next two to the 3rd and 4th Section place finishers. Also winning a match was Chris Gonzalez who lost a tough opening bout to a wrestler who eventually finished in 3rd place. The RAMS overall had a solid tournament and finished in 11th place out of 32 teams.

2023-2024 Dual Meet Record: 19-6
How Did Your Team Do Last Season: Last season the RAMS had an incredible year that saw them finish the season tied for the League Championship and set a school single season record for most wins in a season with 19. The RAMS were team champions of the Eastchester Duals Tournament, and finished second in a slew of other tournaments: the RCK Mat Wars Tournament, the Scarsdale Tournament, the Rockland County JV Tournament, the Rockland County Varsity Tournament, and the postseason Division Tournament along with a strong 3rd place finish at the Ossining Duals. The RAMS were an impressive 19-6 on the season, advanced to the Elite 8 in the Section I Duals, and finished in 10th place at the Section I Tournament. Individually, North had 3 Division Champions, 3 Rockland County Champions, 3 JV Rockland County Champions, 10 Sectional qualifiers, 5 All-Section wrestlers, a JV Section I Champion, a New York State qualifier, 7 wrestlers earn All-League honors, the League Wrestler of the Year, 1 wrestler who won over 40 matches, 5 who won 30+ matches, and another 6 who won over 20 matches. Much of this is due to the incredible coaching staff we have at North which includes Tony Mellino SR, a National Wrestling Hall of Fame and New York State Wrestling Hall of Fame inductee; two former collegiate NCAA All-American coaches - John Roden (2X AA at Springfield) and Jack Granata (AA at Hunter College); Brian Winrow, a 4 year wrestler at D-I Syracuse University; Chris Granata, North’s first 100 match winner and a 4X Division and Rockland County champion; Scott Aronowitz, a former RAM who was a Section champion and 4th in NYS; and assistant coach Scott Murphy (Rockland County/Division Champion and All-Section) who has been at North for 13 years. We were all honored when our staff was selected by The Journal News as both the League and Rockland County Coaching Staff of the Year for the 2023-2024 season.
Biggest Losses to Graduation: The RAMS will be losing 2 of their All-Section wrestlers and team captains: NYS qualifier Dylan LaRocco who was 44-4, a runner-up in the Section and Division (both losses to 4X All-State Dillon Arrick), and a Rockland County Champion who won his 100th career match at the state tournament; and JT Roden who was 37-9 and a Rockland County Champion and a Division finalist who finished in 5th in the Section to become All-Section for the second time in his career.
Top Returning Wrestlers: Leading the RAMS will be 3 returning All-Section wrestlers: Junior Ryan Ciardullo, who was 37-9, a Rockland County Champion, Division finalist, All-League, and 3rd in Section I; Senior Isaac Brightly, who improved from 16-20 to 34-13, and became a Division Champion, All-League, and a 5th in Section I; and sophomore Will Roden who finished the season at 33-14, was a Division Champion, All-League, and finished in 6th in the Section. Senior Jeremy Small, who is approaching 100 career victories, was 32-8, a Division Champion, All-League,
