4 RAMS Selected 1st Team All-County
Ryan Stern (37-8), Alexis Diaz (37-7), Ryan Cox (38-8), and Michelangelo Caruncho (30-2) were each selected to 1st Team All-County honors.
Scott Aronowitz (2002) Inducted into RAMS Wrestling Hall of Fame
At the team's annual wrestling banquet, Scott Aronowitz became the 7th RAM inducted into the North Wrestling Hall of Fame. During his career at North, Scott took 4th place at the NYS Championships, won a Section I and Division title, was a 2X Rockland County Champion where he also won the MOW Award, and was the Section I Wrestler of the Year.
Stern, Cox Earn NYS Wild Cards
Ryan Stern and Ryan Cox each earned a wild card to compete in the NYS Championships. They are 8th and 9th RAMS to compete at the states since 2002. Stern and Cox each went 1-2 at the states, earning a pin.
Three RAMS Place at Sections
At the Section I state-qualifier, the RAMS wrestling team had an outstanding weekend which saw three North wrestlers each exceed their seed to earn All-Section honors. #4 seed Ryan Stern pinned his first two opponents and then knocked off the first seed in a thrilling overtime battle in the semis to earn his first trip to the section finals before falling in s tight match 6-0 to take 2nd. #6 seed Alexis Diaz went 4-1 in the tournament, with two 7 point decisions and pins of his last two opponents, including one against the #2 seed, to finish in 3rd place. And #4 seed Ryan Cox also went 4-1, securing two major decisions and a pin in overtime in the 3rd place match to take the bronze and finish with All-Section honors for the second time in his career.
2 RAMS Win JV Section I Titles
Christian Scally and Dan Landau each captured the gold medal, while fellow finalist Pat Manga took home the silver. George Rurak went 3-1 on the day with 3 pins to take 3rd place, while Graham Gallo finished in 4th.
2 RAMS Win Division Titles
Alexis Diaz and Ryan Stern each took home the gold at the section-qualifier. Diaz pinned both his opponents, while Stern not only defeated his rival from North Rockland to capture his first Division title but he also recorded his 100th career victory. Also placing for the RAMS were Liam Henry and Ryan Cox who each took 2nd, and Jack Henry and Otto Davidson who each took 4th place.
3 RAMS Win Rockland County Titles
Ryan Cox dominated the competition with a pin, a tech fall, and a 16-2 major in the finals to defend his Rockland County crown. Alexis Diaz pinned all three opponents to win both a County title and the Sol Gordon Most Pins Award. And Michelangelo Caruncho, after finishing 2nd two years in a row, finally won that elusive County title with a pin and a 9-4 decision in the finals. Otto Davidson and Ryan Stern were also finalists, both losing tight, competitive matches.
Ryan Cox Receives Journal News Scholar-Athlete Award
For the 2nd time in 6 years, the RAMS Wrestling team had a wrestler honored with a Journal News Scholar-Athlete Award. Congratulations, Ryan!!
North Defeats South 45-40, Set Team Record For Wins in a Season
North defeated their crosstown rivals 45-40, winning 7 of the 10 bouts contested, to set a new team record for victories in a season to complete their dual meet campaign with a mark of 15-5. Although the RAMS were giving up 24 points due to forfeits, they scored bonus points in 6 of their 7 wins to secure the win. On JV, the RAMS were also dominant winning 4 of the 7 matches.
Embry a Finalist, Three Others Place Top 4 at JV County Tournament
Will Embry had a solid tournament with a shut-out and a pin to finish in 2nd place to lead the RAMS. Also placing for North were Pat Manga who took 3rd, and George Rurak and Dillon Mikelic who each finished in 4th place.
RAMS Send four to Finals at Beacon Tournament
At the annual Beacon Tournament, North placed seven wrestlers in the top 4 to finish in 5th place out of 15 teams. Ryan Stern, Wilgens Charles, Ryan Cox, and Michelangelo Caruncho all finished in second place, Jack Henry and Alexis Diaz each took 3rd, and Otto Davidson finished in 4th place for the RAMS.
Caruncho and Cox Dominate at Yonkers Tournament
Ryan Cox and Michelangelo Caruncho both pinned and teched all of their opponents to win their weight classes. Alexis Diaz finished in second, while Ryan Stern went 3-1 with 3 pins to finish in 3rd.
Three RAMS Take Home Gold at Brewster JV Tournament
A trio of RAMS each went 3-0 to capture a title: Will Embry pinned his way through the tournament, and Dan Landau and Dillon Mikelic were also perfect to bring home the gold. Taking 2nd place were George Rurak and Justin Gonzalez, while Zander Pelletier, Chris Pellegrino, Graham Gallo, James Flanagan, and Pat Manga all finished in 3rd.
MOW Caruncho Leads RAMS at North Tournament
Senior captain Michelangelo Caruncho had a perfect 5-0 day with 4 pins to capture the 182 pound weight class. For his excellence on the mat, he received the MOW Award for the RAMS. Three other North wrestlers went 4-1 to earn the silver: Ryan Stern (3 pins), Wilgens Charles, and Ryan Cox ( 2 pins and 2 tech falls). Liam Henry and Alexis Diaz each had three pins and Otto Davidson had two pins to take home the bronze.
RAMS Crown 4 Champions at North JV Tournament
Will Embry ( 3 pins), Christian Scally, Zander Pelletier and Dan Landau (2 pins) each captured the gold medal, while 5 others finished in second to take home the silver: Andrew Stern, Pat Manga, Dillon Mikelic, George Rurak, and Archange Gay.
RAMS Go 4-1, Take 3rd Place at the Yorktown Duals
For the second consecutive weekend, the RAMS finished with a 4-1 to take 3rd place as team in the 10 team tournament. The RAMS defeated their 4 opponents by scores of 60-18, 45-39, 43-40, 44-36, and lost a tight dual with host Yorktown 42-33. Alexis Diaz ( 5 pins) and Ryan Stern were a perfect 5-0 on the day, while Michelangelo Caruncho, Ryan Cox, Jack Henry, and Christian Scally each went 4-1.
RAMS Go 4-1, Take 3rd Place at Ossining Duals
The RAMS opened their season by defeating Coxsackie-Athens 55-27 to finish in 3rd place out of 10 teams at the Ossining Duals. The RAMS also tallied victories of 60-24, 45-32, and 54-33 with their lone loss coming to perennial power Fox Lane. Three RAMS were perfect on the day with 5-0 records: Michelangelo Caruncho (4 pins and a major), Ryan Cox (4 pins and a forfeit), and Ryan Stern (4 pins and tech fall). Three others went 4-1: Alexis Diaz (4 pins), Otto Davidson, and Christian Scally.
